Sebastian Mihăilescu is a Romanian writer, director, and producer whose films have captivated audiences at major international festivals.
Originally a computer science engineer, Sebastian transitioned to filmmaking, earning his degree in directing at the University of Theatre and Film in Bucharest. In 2024, he founded METALE GRELE, a production company dedicated to bold and unconventional cinema.
His debut feature, YOU ARE CEAUSESCU TO ME (2021), is a hybrid documentary that premiered at Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival and received accolades at Doclisboa, Transilvania International Film Festival, and Thessaloniki Film Festival, showcasing Sebastian's talent for blending history, performance, and personal storytelling.
He followed this with MAMMALIA (2023), a surreal and enigmatic Super 16 mm film, which premiered at the Berlinale Forum and screened at prestigious festivals, including the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, IndieLisboa International Film Festival, Reykjavik International Film Festival, Festival du Nouveau Cinéma, New Horizons International Film Festival, and Vilnius International Film Festival.
Sebastian’s latest project, VAMPIRE ZOMBIE (2025), is an experimental no-budget horror film. It follows Catalina, a film student, as her collaboration with Marchizu', a former rock star, descends into a surreal confrontation with her childhood nightmares and fractured identity.
Known for his fearless approach, Sebastian creates bold and uniquely crafted films.
